2013 Facts and Figures About Alzheimer’s

The latest numbers are in and all signs point to the continuation of the Alzheimer’s epidemic. Currently there are 5 million elderly Americans living with the disease, and, according to Alz.org, this number is likely to triple by 2050, save the development of medical breakthroughs to help prevent, treat or slow the progression of Alzheimer’s and other dementia.

On the flip side of the coin, Alz.org reports that 15.4 million caregivers logged an estimated 17.5 billion hours of of unpaid care in 2012. These numbers are also projected to triple by 2050. As we’ve discussed extensively on the Encompass Senior Solutions blog, Alzheimer’s is an epidemic that will only grow with an aging U.S. population.
